Terms of Service

Effective date: September 15, 2026

1. Your agreement with ClosetBoard

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ClosetBoard application, website, and related services (the "Service"). They form an agreement between you and ClosetBoard, LLC, doing business as ClosetBoard ("ClosetBoard," "we," "us," or "our"). You can reach us at sadie@closetboard.org.

By accepting these Terms or using the Service after they are presented to you, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. Agreeing to these Terms does not replace any separate consent required for optional data processing or third-party AI processing.

2. Who may use the Service

You must be at least 13 years old to use ClosetBoard. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms. A parent or guardian accepting for a minor is responsible for that minor's use to the extent permitted by applicable law.

You must be able to enter into a binding agreement, directly or through a parent or guardian as described above. You may not use the Service if applicable restrictions prohibit us from providing it to you.

3. Your account

Provide accurate account information and keep it reasonably current. Keep your sign-in credentials secure, and promptly tell us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

Do not use another person's account, impersonate someone else, or transfer your account without our agreement.

You are responsible for use you authorize through your account. You are not automatically responsible for activity caused by a failure of our security safeguards. We may ask you to verify account information when necessary to protect your account, process a purchase, or respond to a data request.

4. What ClosetBoard does

ClosetBoard helps you add clothing you own, save outfit inspiration, and generate or refine outfit ideas using your closet. Available features may include taking or choosing a photo, recreating a reference with your clothing, saving inspiration, adding an owned Piece, importing clothing details for review, organizing saved Outfits, and sharing with selected friends.

Mark a Piece as owned only if it belongs in your wardrobe. Saving an inspiration image or photographing an item in a store does not mean you own that item, and does not purchase it. Viewing a friend's closet does not add those items to your own inventory or give you rights to use their photos elsewhere.

Features, availability, and usage limits may vary by plan, device, region, and version. We describe applicable limits and paid features before you purchase. Preview and beta features may be incomplete and may change; they do not guarantee that every demonstrated feature will be released.

5. AI suggestions and imported information

Outfit suggestions, image processing, and imported clothing details may use automated systems and third-party AI. Results can be incomplete or inaccurate. For example, a system may misidentify a garment, miss an item in a reference, or suggest a combination that does not work as expected. Review item details and suggestions before relying on them.

ClosetBoard does not guarantee an exact recreation, physical fit, color match, garment condition, availability, or suitability for a particular activity. Suggestions are styling ideas, not professional advice or a guarantee about the clothes themselves. You make the final decision about what to wear and whether clothing is appropriate for your circumstances.

Imports depend on the source material and available integrations. A receipt, screenshot, or link may fail to import or require correction. Unless a specific feature expressly states otherwise, ClosetBoard does not connect to retailer accounts, make purchases, process returns, or act for a retailer.

6. Your content and our limited permission to use it

"Your Content" includes photos, screenshots, inspiration, clothing records, prompts, feedback, and other material you submit. You retain the rights you hold in Your Content. Submitting someone else's image does not transfer their ownership to you or to us.

You must have the rights or other permission needed to submit Your Content and allow the uses described here. Respect the privacy of people pictured and the rights of photographers, creators, brands, and retailers. Do not upload material that you are not entitled to use or disclose. An image being publicly available on social media does not automatically authorize every use of it.

You grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, adapt, and display Your Content only as needed to operate the Service for you, respond to your requests, and provide the sharing you authorize. Adaptation includes creating clothing cutouts, extracting garment details, generating outfit layouts, and using necessary service providers to perform those tasks. We may allow those providers to exercise this permission only for those purposes.

This permission does not authorize us to sell Your Content, use identifiable content in advertising, or train general-purpose AI models. Any additional use requiring your permission must be separately explained and agreed. The Privacy Policy describes the actual processing arrangements and required choices.

This license ends when the relevant content is deleted from our systems, except for limited retention described in the Privacy Policy or required by applicable law. Deletion does not recover copies other people independently saved outside the Service. You may use the outfit suggestions we provide for your personal purposes, subject to third-party rights in any included material; we do not promise that AI output is unique or eligible for exclusive ownership.

7. Friends and sharing

ClosetBoard separates friendship from permission to browse a closet. Approving a friend request does not automatically grant closet access. You choose whom to grant access, and you may revoke it. Treat another person's shared closet and content as private unless they clearly authorize further sharing.

Do not use friendship, invitation, sharing, or reporting features to harass, stalk, threaten, shame, or impersonate anyone. Do not evade a block or repeatedly contact someone who has declined contact. You can block accounts through the available controls and report concerns to us. We may review reports and restrict or remove content or accounts that violate these Terms.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Submit content that infringes another person's rights, exploits children, contains nonconsensual intimate imagery, or promotes threats, targeted harassment, or hateful abuse.
  • Upload passwords, authentication codes, full payment-card information, or other sensitive information unrelated to the requested clothing or styling feature.
  • Introduce malware, interfere with the Service, attempt to access another person's private data, or circumvent security or access controls.
  • Scrape private closets, collect information about other users without authorization, or use automated requests that materially disrupt the Service or evade plan limits.
  • Misrepresent ownership, manipulate subscriptions or promotions, or use the Service for fraud.
  • Copy, resell, or commercially exploit the Service itself without permission, except where applicable law or an applicable open-source license permits the activity.

9. Free plans and paid subscriptions

ClosetBoard may offer a free plan and paid subscriptions. The purchase screen identifies the features, usage limits, price, billing period, taxes where applicable, and any trial or promotional terms. The offer presented when you purchase controls; example prices or features shown in a prototype are not binding offers.

Renewals and trials. An auto-renewing subscription renews for successive billing periods at the disclosed rate unless you cancel before the applicable renewal deadline. A trial or introductory offer may convert to a paid subscription at the rate and time shown when you enroll. Eligibility and cancellation deadlines are disclosed with the offer.

Billing and cancellation. If you buy through Apple or Google, that store bills you under its applicable terms. Manage or cancel through the subscription settings of the account used for the purchase. Unless the offer, store rules, or applicable law provides otherwise, cancellation stops future renewal and paid access continues through the remaining paid period. Trial access may end when you cancel, depending on the store's terms.

Deletion and refunds. Uninstalling ClosetBoard, signing out, or deleting your ClosetBoard account does not automatically cancel a store-managed subscription. Cancel with the billing store to stop future charges. Refund requests for store purchases follow the store's process and applicable consumer rights. These Terms do not exclude any refund or cancellation right that cannot be excluded.

Changes. We may change plans or prices prospectively with the notice and consent required by the billing store and applicable law. A change does not retroactively alter a purchase already made. If a material reduction to paid benefits affects an existing paid period, we provide the notice and remedy required by applicable law. You may cancel future renewals before the change takes effect.

Restoring access. Where supported by the store, you can restore an eligible purchase using the purchasing account. Contact us if an active subscription is not recognized.

10. App stores and third-party services

Apple, Google, retailers, social platforms, and other third-party services have their own terms and privacy policies. Linking to or accepting content from them does not mean they sponsor or endorse ClosetBoard. We are responsible for our own Service and for obligations that cannot be transferred to a third party.

For the iOS application distributed through Apple's App Store, the app license is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. These Terms supplement that agreement and do not replace it with a custom EULA. If a provision conflicts with Apple's Standard EULA within its scope, that EULA controls. Applicable store terms also govern store distribution and billing.

These Terms are between you and ClosetBoard. Contact us for product questions, support, or complaints. Nothing here changes responsibilities expressly assigned to Apple or Google by their own applicable terms.

11. Our intellectual property

We or our licensors own the Service's software, branding, designs, and other materials, apart from Your Content and third-party material. Subject to these Terms and the applicable app-store license, you may access and use the Service for your personal, noncommercial purposes. Rights not expressly granted remain with their owners.

If you believe material in ClosetBoard infringes your rights, contact us with your contact information, a description of the protected material, the location of the disputed content, and the reason for your complaint. We may request additional information and take action as appropriate.

12. Suspension and ending use

You may stop using ClosetBoard at any time. You can request account deletion through Profile > Settings > Data and account > Delete your account, or by emailing us with the subject line "Delete my account." The Privacy Policy explains deletion, export, retention, and verification. Subscription cancellation is separate as explained in Section 9.

We may suspend or restrict access when reasonably necessary to address a material violation of these Terms, fraud, a security risk, or an applicable requirement. Where practicable, we provide notice and a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue or challenge our decision. Immediate action may be necessary to protect people or the Service. Contact us to request review.

If we discontinue the Service, we will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable, explain available export and deletion options, and honor applicable rights relating to prepaid unused service. Clauses that by their nature need to continue after termination, including accrued payment obligations, ownership, responsibility limits, and dispute provisions, survive only to that extent. Content retention remains governed by the Privacy Policy.

13. Service availability and responsibility

We aim to provide a useful, reliable Service, but uninterrupted operation and error-free results cannot be guaranteed. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without additional implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. This does not limit an express promise we make to you or any mandatory consumer guarantee.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, ClosetBoard is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, or loss of profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability arising from the Service is limited to the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid us for the Service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These exclusions and limits do not apply to fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies you have under mandatory consumer or data-protection rules. Apple's Standard EULA controls any conflicting provision within its scope.

14. Disputes and governing rules

If you have a concern, please contact us so we can try to resolve it. This does not prevent you from exercising an available right or seeking urgent relief.

Subject to mandatory protections that apply where you live, these Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without applying conflict-of-law principles. Courts located in Cook County, Illinois may hear disputes, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim in your place of residence or another forum. Nothing here prevents a complaint to a competent regulator.

15. Changes and other terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. We will identify the effective date and notify you of material changes in advance where required. Changes apply prospectively. When a change requires affirmative acceptance, we request it; otherwise, continued use after the stated effective date indicates acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, you may stop using the Service and cancel future renewals.

If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent possible. A failure to enforce a provision immediately does not waive it. We may transfer this agreement as part of a business transfer or reorganization, provided the transfer does not reduce mandatory protections you have. These Terms, applicable purchase terms, and any applicable app-store license form the agreement governing the Service.
